William,
Wow! Great response. I got this lathe free and completely tore it down, replaced all bearings, cleaned and repainted. I left the 3 phase 1 hp motor in it and added a VFD. It was just kind...

I have an early seventies pm70 that I would like to convert to single phase. If I replace the motor, should I go more horsepower than the 1 hp currently in it? Is there any pros or cons to it?
Thanks all!
I seem to have found a happy median between gouge, scraper, and skew. I think I have just been moving in too fast. Turned several breast cancer pens yesterday with success. I start...
I seem to really struggle when turning acrylics, especially acrylester. I seem to end up with too much chip out or blow the blank up completely. I have tried using a pen turning gouge, a skew chisel...
I'm starting a round dining room table and wondered if there is a suggested amount of table space for each person? It seems to me that somewhere between 20"-26" would be the range but I thought some...
I am fortunate to have recorded all his shows over the years, same with David Marks, problem is that they are all on VHS. So I keep an old vhs player around and use it just for that! I'd like to...
I've been asked tobe the woodworking and woodcarving merit badge counselor for my son'd scout troup. They average about 12 years old. I'd like a flat work project that takes maybe a couple 1x8's or...
Where did you have them rebuilt for that price?
I am about to order a new jointer:D and I see that there is a place to use a coupon or discount at Grizzly. How does a person get these, are they sent out on occasion or sent as a reward for placing...
216817Ok, found a DW735 with two extra sets of blades, practically new machine for $450.00.
So now to save for an 8" jointer.
Thanks everyone for your input. I think I'm going to go with separate units. I can't afford to go to a 12" unit and don't want to limit my planing ability to 10". I saw a Dewalt DW734 at the borg for...
I was about to order an 8" Grizzly jointer until last night when my bench top planer blew up! I have an old 6" jointer which JUST gets me by, so I have to make a choice, old jointer and new planer or...
I have a 24'x24' pole building shop which I studded with 2x6's and insulated. Walls are covered with osb and I applied 2" styrofoam to the overhead doors. My problem is the high celings. I heat with...
That's a great looking pen! It inspires me to go turn the 4 .30 cal kits I have laying on the workbench:o.

Looks great Brian, good job!
Here's this afternoon's production. Man' I gotta study up on photo tents! Rolling out a paper towel and shooting things just doesn't do 'em justice!
Those are great! I really like the alves one. Please share your finish process. I just turned my first stoppers and used Deft as a wipe-on. It works ok, but I'm not getting enough shine. I'd be...
Well, I tried cleaning it again and them whacked it together with a deadblow hammer and it seems to be stuck together. I just turned 4 stoppers without it coming apart once! Thanks for the help!...
I got the dowel chuck to stay on the arbor (see earlier post). I guess I didn't clean the cosmoline well enough, just cleaned it again with lacquer thinner and a couple taps with a dead blow hammer...
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my first post. It is a chuck with the jaws drilled out in order to securely hold the dowel when turning a cork-bodied bottle stopper. You've all no doubt seen them...
Looks great Rick! I started using DNA about two years ago and haven't had a failure yet.
I just got a dowel chuck from Craft Supply and it won't stay on the arbor. I cleaned it with lacquer thinner and banged it on my tablesaw top but it stills comes off. Any ideas?
It doesn't have the gap bed but it will indeed be nice to have a stable lathe!
Thanks everyone. I'm picking up a new camera today (since I saved so much on my new lathe;)) so I'll get some pics together asap!
Just unloaded it in my shop! Man, is it a hunk of metal! Somewhat rusted and the tailstock won't turn but it's got a single phase 3hp motor and seems to be complete. Now, where do I find info on it...
