Almost all of the bowls that I see posted are with the grain running horizontal. Is there a reason for this such as stability or is it just what is the norm?

After doing a batch of pens I noticed that my trimmer seemed to be more "grabby" in the tubes. I cleaned the shaft with some acetone and it was like new again. Not sure if you would notice that with...
I have never done a juried show nor even applied to one, but from what I have read about them and reading the other postings I am having a thought. I know you want to make many types of pieces but...
5 million people-14 stoppers made= 4,999,986 more customers. Better

Around June 1st the prices on all lathes (Jet, Rikon, Powermatic) went up by
about 50%. The reasoning was that the cost of fuel, the cost of manufacturing, and the weakening of the dollar caused...

Are the longworth chucks only good at closing around the outside of a piece or can they be expanded on the inside so that you can get the outer shape complete?

looking at making a bowl not a strainer
Unfortunately as of May 1 all lathes through Woodcraft went up. Actually I think that they went up everywhere by that much per Jet and Rikon due to the decrease in buying power of the dollar and...

I bought that three jaw chuck thinking that it would be a good starting chuck for small pieces. I was wrong. It may be fine for smaller already balanced pieces but for anything that is off balance...
I was teamed up with Jerry Sambrook for this exchange and by far he got the short end of the stick. The one on the left is 100+ year old oak. On the right is Spanish Ceder. Also included in the box...
