Looks like brown or red marlee.
Turned on my lathe today to finish a bowl and the motor will not urn on. Checked the VFD and it indicated a error. Reset the VFD. No error. Tried to start. Spindle took about 1/4 turn, stopped....
I got the same mailing. I put it file 13. I have not renewed Woodturning Design in years.
Maple. I live in N.C. I turned a lot of maple over the years.

I have done several malee turnings. Red and brown. I have used lacquer sprayed on them with great success.

I called Powermatic in TN and they sent me a free spray can for touch up on my mustard.

I live in the mountains, on lake Glenville, just north of Cashiers, NC...Bought a house in 1986 for 45,000, now lake houses here go million up..Getting pretty crowded.

Looks like brown marlee burl to me. I have turned both red and the brown marless. Harder then steel. LOL

Thanks for all of your inputs on the poly gel. I thought it was old sdtuff and not worth the effort to use it or pay the postage to return it.
I will continue to use my finishes that have worked...
