Hi all
I have a HF collector which I would like to mount to a wall, the exhaust of which will go into a Wynn mounted next to it. Since my collector pipe is ceiling mounted, I would like to mount...
It is a most excellent wood for long bows, if you can get some knot free lengths split out. Twist and bend can be handled with some judicious steaming. Bowyers will come from miles around for some...
Mulberry and Osage are similar in character self bow wise. Like pecan and hickory are. Can't comment on use for turning.
mulberry make a real nice bow, if you were ever inclined to try and make a self bow.
measure with a micrometer, mark with crayon, cut with a chain saw and pound to fit.
Just like chris, long term storage in the freezer and shorter term in the fridge. I use the glass jar with marbles in the crock pot method for large batches. I have the very small hide glue pot...
I would not heat it very hot - not over 160 or so. That is what I was taught - not sure why - maybe a breakdown of collagen, etc. Keep it in the freezer or fridge in between sessions. I make ice...
come visit me in NY and you can chop up and take all the hickory and oak chips you can carry . . . .
Pecan is very similar to hickory.
Fruit tree wood, especially Apple, make great stock for the making of archery self bows - if you are so inclined. Green is better than dried, but still good none the less.
I use shoe shine leather dye with great results - although I mainly use the marine core black.
use a form and a heat gun. Not a severe bend.
I bought from renovo once. Needed the belt and belt guard on a 12 inch delta lunch box planer. I was leery about dealing with them, but I could not find the parts anywhere else, and they wanted...
marine grade also refers to the glue used. Marine grade ply is what is used to make lap boats, meant for submerged boat planks, so definitely ok for outdoor use. Expensive comparatively to BB ply,...
I love the guys at the tool nut, and I live about a mile away, but they do not have a showroom anymore - only mail order.
I would use breadboard ends, with or without the dovetail on the ends for looks.
I use osage to make bows with. I will debark a log, split into quarters or smaller depending on size, and slather shellac all over the newly exposed back and end grain to slow the drying and...
barge glue is the common one used with leather. If gluing to wood - you could prob get away with using tite bond too.
once you get the hang of the machine, you will get perfect 90, not that it is really needed . . . . .
It works as well as you are able to set the blade in the holder. Like most other blade holding gadgets. The pressure you apply the edge is more of a factor, IMHO. I like mine and would buy again. ...
Nice looking horse. Really like the seat. Something seems off to me, though. On my horse, when at rest (no foot pressure), the head is naturally in the max open position and the foot brace is at...
How about using the 4X4 post, but then cover it over with 1X pine so that it looks proportionally correct to your eye.
Look up "wedgie sled". You wont need the slider.
Those Chris Craft boats look so nice (due to constant upkeep and their owners rubbing them with a diaper daily) because the builders understand that no finish will inhibit the moisture uptake of wood...
Hi Guys
I am putting together a large bench top which has some knots, flaws and voids. Nothing to big to effect the bench, just cosmetic. I would like to fill the voids etc. with some kind of...
mineral spirits.
I used to use sharpie to mark my work with name, date etc. I also use Tru oil to finish the pieces over the sharpie. The oil finish would wash the sharpie away as I applied...
