Thanks for the tips. I can make shaving now! Sharpened the blade until it shaved some hair (original didn't), waxed sole, skew angle, paper thin setting and I can take full width shaving on soft and...
Thanks all. I'll sharpen the blade and try again with your suggestions. Waxing the sole and skewing the plane helped but I couldn't get the plane to go straight to the end of the board (even when...
blade still has factory edge and I haven't used it since bought. Should it be sharpened? planing 3/4" edge works fine but face planing always give me trouble. If I start slow/normal speed, plane...
I'm a novice at using handplane. I was trying out a new lee valley #4 smoother on the face of a piece of maple 2" wide. The plane skips at the beginning of the push stroke and cause ripples at the...
I'm replacing my stair treads with oak and want to match the finish color to the current existing rail, however I can't seem to find the right stain color to match. Anyone know what stain would...
Great tips! I'll keep in mind when I build my bench someday :)
Maybe cut a recess in the bench with depth of the clamped/compressed leather to make it coplanar?
My favorite tool is the one i found when i was actually looking for it! Now, where's that tape measure?
Rockler currently have phenolic plywood for half off and free shipping over 25. Saves you the hassle laminating
This thread got me interested in a finishing stone. I currently use a 600,1200 dmt diamond stone(red and green) and finish using 2000 sand paper and green compound on mdf. Would you recommend this...
I don't hide... Just delay in notifying ;)
Thanks for the link Rick. It's very informative. I'll check the setup once again before messing with the bottom wheel alignment. There's a good chance fatory alignment is better than me poking around...
I've been wanting to ask this for a while but since it's National Bandsaw Week, i'll ask it now ;). My bandsaw blade is always tilted toward the front of bottom wheel regardless of its position on...
I've read from some roubo bench users with douglas fir top that the dog holes are easily damaged using holdfasts due to DF being softwood. Have anyone had experience with laminating DF to hard maple...
Went to the santa cruz beach boardwalk with my wife and daughter on saturday. Mommy started looking for a sandbox yesterday so i built a quick one last night.

great looking bench! mind if i ask which local lumberyard did you get the doug firs? were they kiln dried? I'm close by newark and might build one someday if i can get pass the planning stage :D
I'd rather replace a tire on purpose than a good blade on accident when forgetting to re-tension :).
C3 Nicad will work with the set you bought. c3 li-ion charger can charge nicad battery, otoh c3 nicad charger cannot charge c3 li-on battery
you are right Jim, it's a craftsman size of a #4 with plastic knobs but heavier than a stanley #4(to be reconditioned as well).

Thanks guys. I took your advice and tried it out. The best I can plane a piece of 2x4 doug fir edge is .0002 with any consitency, lower than that the shaving just shread and thicker needs extra...
Hi,
I'm in the process of restoring some old handplanes for the first time and have a question on how much is enough for flattening plane sole. For this plane, most of the sole surface are flattened...
don't have a miter saw but i'm curious how often do you use one? It seems best for crown molding, but is it worth buying for other use?
Hi all,
I'm planning to replace the current kitchen drawers boxes and thought I'd take the opportunity to practice dovetail with them as well. I'll be reusing the current oak faceplate and just...
I use 3m super77 multipurpose adhesive for sand paper on glass. Works well and clean up easy with a scraper blade and a little mineral spirit
Thanks all. Just thought I'd ask before trying something stupid :p. I take my time in the shop for the most part, just get impatient sometimes and don't want to leave a running blade unattended.
Just curious if anyone use scrap wood to stop bandsaw blade? With power off, i don't think it would cut very far thus wouldn't shorten blade life as much. I wouldn't mind cutting a few bdf less for...
