    Black Walnut Bowl

This is a small, 9.5" x 3.5", Black Walnut bowl. I really like pretty wood, but I love ugly wood. I'm one that tends to like a lot of things going on in the wood, voids, bark inclusions, curl, cracks, worm holes, spalting, warping. This has them all.

I gotta say... thats some "pretty" "ugly" wood..... it just makes me want to puke... and you can't get much better than that!!

The first pic looks like it's drooling... how sad...

    Great job!!! More... more...!!!

It sure does!! Great job, Curt. I don't mind that stuff either, and it actually does add to the character of a bowl. But, I do think one has to take into consideration all of that in the look of a piece. And, you certainly do a good job of that, Curt. Very nice.

The color and texture actually look a lot like the Claro walnut I have been using.

Nice bowl Curt, and I'm with you on the imperfections. They make things more interesting.

How did you finish the bowl? I ask because it seems really dark.
It’s only work if somebody makes you do it.

Nothing ugly about the finished product! I love the bowl and all of the wonderful "flaws" in the wood.
