    $200 worth of Ancient Kauri

I have a client that wanted something made from Kauri.... which is certified as ancient wood, at least 50,000 years old. It is said to be the oldest workable timber on earth.....

Anyways.... Here's a pic of what $200 got me.... The apple is in there as a reference....

More than I would have thought. I expected a small handful of pen blanks.

Instead, you got a large handful of pen blanks.

Can I ask what you are going to make? Hopefully we will get to see pictures of the finished product?

Just wait until you start to mill that Kauri. It has a very distinctive aroma!

I just noticed the client wants a humidor made from this? Does he realize all of his cigars will then smell like vinegar? I don't know how they would taste.

Did you write on it? I would not do that to a 50k year old anything.
Glad its my shop I am responsible for - I only have to make me happy.

I bet this time it's "measure to or three times before the cut"
Looking forward to the finished humidor Ed....

Other than being old, is there anything distinctive about it?

I have a nice piece of petrified oak, but it would be difficult to work with WW tools.

Yeah, got a guy down the road that charges about the same for quilted maple.

Looks like a wooden apple to me.
