    Scrub Oak Pen

Was playing with the new bandsaw and decided to slice up a chunk of scrub oak firewood. Turned a 3/4" dowel first and, while it fiished up nicely, the grain was barely visible. At the wife's urging I cut two pen blanks from the dowel, drilled them and glued in the tubes. Turned a slimline pen from it. The grain did not show until the EEE wax picked up some black from the bushings then it popped out. Further finishing did not clean out the grain. The wife likes the result - picture below - sorry about the photo quality - I don't have a good setup for taking pictures yet..

Glenn I can see why she liked it. That is a fine looking pen. Nice looking piece of firewood.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
