    Count me down as +1 for cypress. I have a chair made from this and some stools too. Very good results and sticks with it ( 5 years and going strong ).

    I also can recommend Norm Abrams andirondak chair design. Simple and nothing missing. I got a copy from a used book I bought for a couple bucks.

    the one I made was out of local cypress and i was quite pleased with it. I used the plan on popular mechanics. I tweaked it a little. I also used stainless screws. I suspect the chair should last quite some time. I also stained it with deck stain and that worked without issue as well.

    I agree Cypress is great for outdoor chairs. I built several last year our of cypress and cedar and I think the cypress has held up better and IMO looks cooler.
