Which band saw blade to use

I will pickup a G0555 bandsaw on Thursday or Friday, if all goes well. There is a project or two that should get worked on this weekend so I'll need a blade or two real quick. The project is a scroll saw box that I plan to use the bandsaw for the outside contour cutting of the 1 1/2" and 2" thick body. Bodys will be walnut for one and cherry for the other.

I am thinking 1/4" or maybe 1/8" but what tooth configuration and brand?

I will need to order today to have a hope of getting them by Friday.

    Thanks guys.

Anyone used the Grizzly blades, since I will be there getting the saw?

    Ed,

I have limited experience but I used a 3/16", 10 TPI Timber Wolf for my bandsaw boxes and was pleased. It can cut a fairly tight curve and leaves a reasonably smooth surface.

I would not go smaller than 1/4 or 3/16....It will cut a tight radius.

  4. 3/16 Timber Wolf can be used for both inside and outside cuts. Do not over tension it, just to the point it stops fluttering and then a 1/4 turn. Evey machine is different so practice.

Good luck on your boxes. And, remember, you are only limited by the chances you take. (Not including safety)

They sell the USA made Lenox blades also. I have heard that they are good blades.

Make sure you tune the back edge of that blade with a stone, in order to get the tightest radius possible. Really makes a difference.

3/16" 10TPI is recommended by Lois Ventura in her book. That's what I use with no problems. IMHO Timber Wolf are the best.
