Thread: one coat stain and poly for router table....pls suggest product

    one coat stain and poly for router table....pls suggest product

    I added plywood panels to rockler steel router table and now i want to stain it a light/med oak finish.......any suggestions for good product??

    If it's plywood that has larger pores like birch or oak, just use a typical Minwax pigment stain. If it's something like maple ply, use a dye of some sort. It has a binder so if you don't want to top coat if for a shop project, it should be fine. If you want to top coat it, use any clear you want; just if you use a waterborne product, be sure that the Minwax stain is fully cured. Or just slap some shellac over the stain.

    I suppose you could use something like "Polyshades", but as has been said many times, it's sad a can had to have that stuff in it...or thereabouts.. (Seriously, it's an option for your application, but I personally hate the stuff.

    For an all in one product I have used polyshades in the past was surprisingly good success.
