Lightbulb flick of the switch on grain match

    Hi Sarge,
Glad you caught the drift of that drawer front and apron method.
I found it very cumbersome to try to explain, but I wanted to share...
Again, the typing thing is not the greatest form of communication.

I have not seen a Norm show in at least 10 yrs.
I don't know where I got that idea in my head... but I am pretty sure it wasn't Norm.
I have been stuffing my head full of wood ideas from everywhere, for forever!
I would like to see a finished version of that approach, though...
perhaps someone could show us an example??

Like you say, with a craft as old as ours, there is nothing new under the sun.
I look forward to trying out that method on my Stickley table to come.
I have the ends built, but it got sidetracked by my Morris chair.
    Happy building,
    Walt

ps be sure to offer us a peek at your shoe rack

I just did a search Walt... it was Mike Mc Cann that mentioned Norm. Sorry... I have conversed with so many people in the last few days that my old mind is reeling in an attempt to keep up. As far as the method working... I would bet my life saving that it will. It just makes sense.

Unfortunately my life saving could be placed in a Dixie Cup with room left over so any potential bookie willing to take the bet best keep their day job.

I picked up stock for the shoe rack today. I will let it acclimate to-night and it all is well.. start the rack tomorrow. If I do it should be constructed by Sat. morning ready to finish. I may go shellac and I may go with a simple Danish oil finish with shellac. Cure time will take 4 times what it takes to construct it.

I'm not sure if I will post it. Maybe.. but the coffee table is somewhat a simple build but the shoe rack is like building a bird-hpuse as there are not many comppnents. We'll see.

Thanks Mr. Eaton. I was down your way day before yesterday to pick up some hardware to build that new Dubby taper jig and thought about you. Are you still holding down the fort at Gwinnett WW Club on Sat. mornings?

I really need to get by there one of these days soon but.. I finish one thing and almost immediately start another. I had a computer desk scheduled but she dropped a shoe rack in front and I want that Dubby taper jig so.. I'm going to build it. But that one should only take about 3 hours to pull off.

    Regards...

You missed it more than likely as you were paying more attention to cutting a miter joint for a box.. and that's probably a good thing for you.. your family and your medical plan supplier.

Enjoying our chat on the phone a few hours ago... even though we are a whopping 17 miles away... always as close as the nearest phone.

Probably be seeing you in the not so distant future..

Thanks Miss Nancy... I hope that hubby of yours got some wood from Santa. He was so desperate to use tools at IWF he brought over some aluminum to cut on a Steel City TS. The good news is he knew exactly what he was doing with it.

Best regards to the Laird's for a Happy Holiday...

No, Sarge, not wood for him, but I did have to buy a 10' piece of cherry on Tuesday for a job. It was lots of fun getting that 1x8x10' board into my Windstar!!!

You know that is one reason that he doesn't want to travel in our motor home after he retires---he won't be able to take the wood shop with him. We went on a 7-day cruise recently, and as soon as we got the luggage into the house, he was in the shop "checking things out" to make sure that all was well after his absence. He has withdrawal symptoms after about 2 days!!

Hope you and your family had a great holiday too!

And the good news is... sounds as if you have no trouble keeping tabs on where he is and it's not in your way in the kitchen which my wife has no reservation about running me out of..

Thanks Joe. I really didn't expect this thread to pop back up as the coffee table has been battle tested by nieces and nephews at this point. Not even a scratch so far but..... kids are kids....
