This is a design I came up with to fit into the den of my home. I made it with mortise and tenon joinery for the frame using white oak and purpleheart. The drawers are hand cut dovetails and the drawer sides and backs are red cedar. The drawers slide on white oak runners and the bottom of the mantel has a dust cover to conceal the bottom of the drawers. I decided to build this project using traditional joinery as much as possible so there's no drawer slides or screws except for two screws to attach the posts to the top in the back of the mantel. The finish is stain followed by wipe on waterlox. I made the doors on either side of the mantel as well.
