Hello,

Well I have been inspired again to work on some of the details and techniques I used in my first lidded bowl, the cherry one that I posted last week.

This is my second attempt; it’s a maple bowl with a maple lid and a walnut finial. The bowl width is about 9 inches with the height being about 4.5 inches, not including the finial.

The bowl is a piece of soft figured maple, the top is a piece of hard maple (Yes I like contrast). The finial is removable, it fits through a turned hole in the top and has a deduced tenon on the inside that accommodates a second mini walnut box, for a surprise. The second walnut box is friction fit to the stepped tenon.

Over all I am more pleased with this effort that my fist, I worked to get a flowing continuous line on the bowl, but I still need a better vision of the foot line. I feel good with the lid, although I think my finial is out of scale somewhat to the over all piece. I also think I could have worked the transition from the base of the finial to the lid with a better transition design.

Again, I am excited about making these…….I am very open to discussion and critique of my work, please comment if you think there is some thing that you can see I need to work on.
