    Finished Shaker Tall Clock

Here are a few pictures of a Shaker Tall Clock "reproduction" I just completed. The original was built by Benjamin Youngs in the early 18th Century at the Shaker Community in Watervliet New York. I had 2 sources for building the clock: Robert Treanor's article in a book called "In the Shaker Style. The second was a book I really treasure called "The Book of Shaker Furniture by John Kassay. Mr. Kassay's book has pictures along with detailed drawings of Shaker Furniture. The measurements are down to 1/32nd of an inch!

The clock was constructed of soft Maple and the movement is a weigh driven strike movement as was the original. The door glass is German Antique Glass (current production) and the dial was hand lettered by Sara my Art teacher Daughter. Finish is med brown aniline dye with Watco Wipe on Varnish. I had a terrible time finishing the maple, as anyone on the Finishing Forum can attest to. If I had this project to do over, the maple would not be the wood used
