    mesquite platter

A mesquite platter from the "preacher" wood in a previous post. 11.25" in diameter, 2" tall, and about 3/8" thick, General Finishes Salad Bowl finish. I have not turned off the bottom yet, as I am waiting to make sure that it doesn't move any in the next couple of weeks.
As you can tell from the sap wood on the back side, it is from a pretty good sized mesquite trunk. This is about as large as I can turn with a 12" swing.
And for all the Yankee turners getting spalted maple, walnut, burls, etc., etc., out of the firewood pile, the other 2 photos are just to let you know that this is what we also do in Texas with mesquite! Yum!
