    drawers in entertainment armoire

I just finished these two sets of drawers for the huge space underneath our entertainment armoire. The armoire came with some shallow shelves down below, but they were all but useless. Instead, some deep drawers now provide plenty of easily accessible storage for our entire DVD and CD collections, and more.

The drawers are loosely based on this plan from ShopNotes

    http://www.shopnotes.com/issues/102/extras/cabinetmakers-workbench-drawers/

The carcases are plywood faced with poplar, and the drawer fronts are poplar. I made molding to apply to the drawer fronts to match the appearance of the existing drawers, and I finished everything with several coats of Minwax. The color isn’t quite as dark as the armoire color, but it looks very close when a camera flash isn’t going off...

    Happy New Year to all!

Yes in Texas everything is big. Your screen looks so small in comparison. Just poking at ya!

Really nice project...how long did it take?

Thanks! We thought the same thing about our screen seeming small when we got that huge armoire. Luckily the couch is pretty close

Anyway the project took about 4 weeks of sporadic evenings and weekends. It was pretty fast to build, but it dragged at the end working on the finish.

    Hey one thought:

I recommend putting something on the corners of the drawers that are behind those doors or chances are that nice finish will get a gouging track line over time...

don't ask me how I know

+1 to Dewey's suggestion. Those pics he posted could just as easily come from the inside of my pantry cabinet doors.

Nice job on the drawers btw.

Great job on the drawers for the Entertainment Center Stephen.

You can't have enough storage for DVD's and CD's.

Nice addition. It is very difficult to get an exact match even when using the same wood as the original. But.. easier than trying to match a repair on a stipled ceiling as to get it exact is basically impossible.

Thanks to all for the nice comments. Dewey and Larry, good call on doing something to protect the insides of the doors.

    Regards,

Nice work on the drawers. Always better to have drawers than a large open space to pile things into, not that I would do that.
