Here's a pic of the boss and a big block of Apple wood I just got done turning.
Finish is about 10 coats of polly---I let it cure for a week then spent the afternoon buffing it out.

Impressive piece of apple! Substantial rim too by the looks.
Well done, I love Apple.

Man - that is quite the chunk of apple! Nice job! Really good looking finish also!

Using a 10 foot ramp it took two men to roll it into the truck. I would guess something in the 400lb range----we could not lift it.
It is 100% heart wood---by far the best hunk of Apple I have ever had.
Wall thickness---runs about a 1/2 inch thick

That sure is a nice piece. I like the fact this its thick. Nice and hefty. Must have been fun to turn.
David my newest latest greatest trick-----don't tell anyone.
Stainless Steel 20 gal. tank of Danish Oil.
Wood don't crack sitting in the bottom of the tank.

how big was the tree?
14x48 custom 2hp 9gear lathe
9 inch pre 1940 craftsman lathe
36 inch 1914 Sydney bandsaw (BEAST)
Wood in every shelf and nook and cranny,,, seriously too much wood!
That is a serious piece of wood. Looks very nice. I looked up your website, you have a very nice site and quite functional. I spent some time in Kentucky back in 1967 where they keep the gold. There were a lot of nice folks that I got to know from Kentucky.
WOW, I took a look at your website...I've never seen so much cedar. Your shop must smell wonderful.
Gary
Great looking apple piece - my apple always cracks also - but I bet it wouldn't buried in 20 gallons of danish oil
How did you get the thing up on your lathe It must have weighed a ton and getting the centers perfect also - anyway you made a fine project

Curtis-----The tree was about 30 inches straight across at the base---The biggest apple tree I have ever had---plus the heartwood is just a perfect red---mother nature really outdid herself.
Steve -- we are about 90 miles from there.
Alex---the web site-----we do a lot of shows and everyone keeps asking "Do you Have a Web site"---now it's on the business card. It's not really set up as a store ---- more just showing off. I need to work on the pics some more when I find some time.

Jack ---I built a Cherry Picker just to move blanks around.
The wife was real happy I did.
