Almost done!
Only the wooden hinges to make and install. I had hoped to get them done this weekend, but ran out of time (isn't it always the way?).
It's come out pretty well. The only let down is a slight gap, about 1/64", in the centre of the lid-base join. It was a perfect fit when I did a dry fit, but the lid must have bowed very slightly when I clamped it together. This is not unusual. Ordinarily I would just plane it flat, but there is no leeway at all to do this. Tolerance were always going to be tight, and there is about a 1/32" clearance inside the box. So I am just going to have to contain my perfectionism and live with it.
Here are a few pictures.
And a side view for the wood contrast (Jarrah and Tasmanian Oak) ..
Not in George's class ... but then who is?
