    Philly metro

    Hello all,

I'm not a turner, yet, but thought I may be able to make some people happy. SWMBO had a few trees taken down yesterday and they lat a few of the logs in firewood lengths. The one tree was a nice size black walnut. Cut before I realized what was happening. So, my post is if there are turners in the area who may want a log or two, just let me know.

That's right neighborly Sean. Wish I was closer.

    "does walnut turn well?"

Ha - That brings to mind the saying about "Does a Bear ... in the Woods?"

Yeah, it turns exceptionally well, though one has to be careful about drying it - it will check fairly badly if turned green and steps are not taken to slow the drying process.

Chunks that size need to be anchor-sealed quickly, or they'll probably crack pretty much. Man, what I'd give to be in Philly right now!! Good stuff!
