    Honey Locust Bowl

This one is large for South Georgia 15 in. wide X 5 in. high, polymerized tung oil solution, then buffed. When this thing dried it was really hard, it took me a long time to sand some tear out, but I hope it was worth the trouble.

Locust is one hard wood and Glenn in your capable hands it was definitely worth the trouble. As usual that is one beauty of a bowl.

Did you find that you had to sharpen your tools more than normal?

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

I like the Honey Locust, too. That is a great bowl.

Honey Locust is plentiful around here, so I get to turn a lot of it.

Wonderful bowl. As you said, it is really hard. I used to use it to carve stylized pieces, meaning minimal detail. I really liked it for that because of the finish it takes.
    Great job.

Good looking bowl! Is that dark line under the lip a camera flash shadow or a accent stripe?

Thanks for the comments, yep turn and sharpen, turn and sharpen, and the stripe I burned on it with a wire. I wanted to make the lip really seperate from the body.

Glen, very nice bowl. I like the burned accent line very much.

Was all your sanding done by hand or did you powersand? On a hard wood like this, maybe a little mechanical help to cut down the sanding time?

Rick, I do most of my sanding with a drill and disk attached. It still took a long time with this thing because I had some tear out to deal with.
