Cleaning material for carbide piercing bur

I am trying my hand at piercing. I got Binh Pho's video and he uses what he calls "soft steel" to clean his burs. In the video it looks like some thick lead tape which appears very soft. Would that work? Where could I get some? I don't want to dull the bur. I was also thinking about trying some copper tubing. Any suggestions? I asked at Lowes but they really didn't have any ideas.

I don't think I have any stuff laying around the shop that might work, so I would probably have to buy something somewhere. Open for some suggestions.

Jeff, rather than lead or copper, I think that you should use a mild steel. I use a heavy spike (nail) that you can get at any hardware store. I don't know what actural size it is, but it's about 3/8th inch thick. (shouldn't be galvanized) I just drag the burr across it a couple of times. Does a good job.
