    Nutty bowl

When I was a kid, every Christmas my Mom would get out this bowl she had and fill it with mixed nuts (in their shells). I don't remember where the bowl came from, but someone in the family must have made. I remember it was made out of Cherry. Anyway, my son gave me a nice chunk of Black Walnut for Christmas. I was looking at it the other day and thought of that old bowl. I decided to try to make one. This be it. I also made a little mallet to go with it to crack the nuts with. I put Oak inserts on the ends of the mallet and on the pedestal in the bowl because the BW is pretty soft to be cracking nuts with.

I like the design. The wood and the workmanship make this awfullly nice to be banging on with a mallet.

I remember my mother did that as well. Good tradition, looks like you'll be needing nuts next Christmas. Nice looking bowl.
