My son found this door in the river by our house. He braved the crawdads to fish it out! Anybody have a guess as to it's origin? I think it would be too small for a pickup.

well shucks, the first thing that my eyes saw were the cozy wings and the door handle , there should be a serial number of sorts on the door
No sign of any plates or numbers on the door. My guess is that would be on the driver door if they were anything like modern cars back then.
There does appear to be some plastic pieces on the inside that would have held an interior panel on.

Everybody knows what to do with the devil but them that has him. My Grandmother
I had a guardian angel at one time, but my little devil got him drunk, tattooed, and left him penniless at a strip club. I have not had another angel assigned to me yet.

Looks like a VW Rabbit door.
This based on the vent window and the door handle shape.

First thing I thought of was a Ford Courier. They were a little before my time but I remember seeing them a few times.
Looks VW, though not Rabbit/Golf Mk 1, as they are much flatter. This looks like a front door from a 4-door VW Type 3.
Looks like you guys are right! VW Type 3
