Mother's Day gift - newborn footprints

It's a bit late (we celebrated Mother's Day this last weekend due to some travel), but I thought I'd share the Mother's Day gift I made for my wife. I scanned the newborn footprints of our two kids. After opening each of the scans in GIMP, I copied the scan to another layer and applied a Gaussian blur with a radius of 1/6", and then merged the two layers with the darken-only setting. I did this to approximate the shape of each foot.

Engraving was done in 1/4" poplar. 600 dpi, 45 inches/second, grayscale with black=30% power. The deepest part of the footprints is about 1/16".
