I'm working on a project from an old Wood magazine article. In order to get a Stickley-esque finish they recommend mixing super blonde shellac cut with DNA with brushable lacquer and using transtint dyes to get the right color. After that a coat of aerosol lacquer is applied and then ebony paste wax.
I've not seen it recommended elsewhere to mix shellac and lacquer. Will this work? Is there a better way?
