    Mixing shellac in brushable lacquer

    I'm working on a project from an old Wood magazine article. In order to get a Stickley-esque finish they recommend mixing super blonde shellac cut with DNA with brushable lacquer and using transtint dyes to get the right color. After that a coat of aerosol lacquer is applied and then ebony paste wax.

    I've not seen it recommended elsewhere to mix shellac and lacquer. Will this work? Is there a better way?

    No idea if mixing shellac and lacquer works, but there definitely are easier ways to go about a Stickley finish. Check out Jeff Jewitt's article: http://www.homesteadfinishingproduct..._rev1-2011.pdf I followed this basic process when I made this:
