Byrd Head Install on Hammer A3-31

I am looking for input from anyone who has installed a Byrd spiral head on a Hammer A3-31, jointer/planer. I have the opportunity to purchase a new head at a reduced cost, but want to know how involved such an installation would be. I have installed a Byrd head on a Dewalt planer, as many have, but that install was easy. The Hammer looks a little more involved. The folks at Felder try to dissuade the project, but that could be because they want you to purchase a new A3-31 with their spiral head already installed. Any information would be appreciated.
