    Delta 22-580 Planer Question

The good news is I finally got the planer so I have NO snipe. YAY

The bad news is that I cannot get the 90 CPI mode to stay engaged.

I took it apart last night, cleaned, and lubed it. This at least got it to start working. It appears that if I press the handle it will engage sometimes. Has anyone else had this problem and gotten it fixed. Not sure if it is an adjustemnt or I need to replace a part.

Glad I have a drum sander to smooth out the boards for now.

    Any tips anyone?

    Thanks

dumb question, but did you turn the planer on first? mine allows you to switch between the slow and fast speeds only when the planer is on. this wasn't obvious to me the first time.

Sam - Good thought but yes it was running. I did some testing with the cover over the gears removed and you can see the sprockets start and stop and there is nothing in the gear box that is binding or causing the problem.

Mine kind of had a two-step engagement. You'd flip the lever over and it would feel like it's engaged, but then you have to press harder and it will move another 2 inches or so. I actually had it pop out of gear on me because I hadn't moved it all the way.
