This maple was harvested from a golf course in the western suburbs of Chicago. It was a mature tree with lot of brown heart wood and fiddled grain. The tree layed on asphalt for a couple summer months before we got to it. We sawed over forty blanks from it. Amazingly it wasn't too cracked. The black coloring suggests some type of spalting. The wood was solid and a pleasure to turn. The bowl is about 7 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" deep. It is about 3/16" thick. Finish is lacquer over Formby's Gloss Tung Oil.
