Need Help, Spindle Stuck on Minimax CU 300

I have a new to me Minimax CU300. I can't get the shaper spindle to raise. Here is what I have tried: the locking knob is backed off. I have tried turning it counter clock wise, per manual and schematic. When I turn the spindle it spins freely topside or using the belt, below.

It feels like it is locked or seized. When I try to turn it I can move the handwheel maybe half a turn, with effort. The shaft going to the 90 degree box is free, feels fine and I can see play in it. When it reaches the point when it won't turn any further it feels solid, not spongy. I have tapped the spindle, gently and sprayed some PT Blaster in there to let it sit overnight. Anyone had a problem like this?

Any suggestions? Am I missing something really simple on this machine?

I'd spray it with Naptha or Mineral Spirits, you want a solvent.

Okay, got it loose. I used a short piece of wood and levered the lower part of the carriage very slightly and it raised. Still a little stiff so will see if it gets looser with use. Maybe it shifted during shipment.
