Thread: Dovetails into 15 degree leg

Brian, That drawing is a little too notional and I probably shouldn't have thrown it up. The boss was calling me for dinner and it wasn't going to be pretty if I had trouble hearing her...

You guys had some good points and I need to look closer at all the changes but I think this is worth a good look.

FWIW, that leg is 4" x6" which I think is pretty massive. The tenon at the top of the leg could easily go 2" thick so there should be room to tailor down some dimensions without taking away too much strength.

Hah, I know that feeling...that is a good call.

Post up another drawing, I'm happy to give a second opinion.

I put the vise on the leg. See the attached pictures.

William, Your looks like you also bumped up the dimensions.

Did you make your offside legs at 90 degrees?

Kevin I used scrap 4.5x8 fir beam cutoffs for the legs, and cut up some blocks to make the cross bracing for the leg assemblies. Once I took out the twist, bow, etc the legs ended up 3.5 x ~ 7. The offside legs are at the same angle. I think it is a great bench-rigid, easy to knock down and move, etc.

    William, An easy to move 100" x 20" x 3" HM slab?

Thanks, I appreciate the link. I'd forgotten about your build but do remember seeing it before.

Easier than moving it assembled! Only the slab needs two men.
