Making sawdust regularly, occasionally a project is completed.
I've made a few full sized cake stands now. I assume, in part because it's so small, that you made it from a spindle. Mine have been from bowl blanks where the platter is made from a different wood with a mortise/ tenon gluing them together. I assumed that the grain would stand out more with a bowl vs spindle. Also I didn't have any spindle banks to work with.
The only thing that small I have done are a few buttons. But being small and thin there's not much I can do to make them stand out. The last couple I used a piece of Cherry burl that was about 1.5" square and 1" thick that otherwise would of gone into the wood stove. Do you use a magnifying glass when you make something that small?
Beautiful! Love the shape.
Alex I have a magnifier I wear to do the finer details. My glasses just aren't strong enough. For really really small things I have a 20X stereo microscope that I use.
Impressive, John. Must require great dexterity, among other things.
Very nice looking!
