    Wadkin C800 Bandsaw used

Just got my new/used Wadkin C800 Bandsaw in the shop. Big machine 8' tall/ 1400LBS/9HP w almost 19" of resaw height.
Plan to power with a FUJI 20HP VFD which will also act as a 1PH to 3PH converter from Marshall Wolf Automation. Engineer there assures me this will be fine. Anyone have any experience with VFD's out there? Rob

Nice find! I would have bought it too. Plenty of folks here run VFD's, including me, and would have no qualms about doing it again.

edited to add: My VFD's are nothing like that large, so there may be some different advice coming for a 9hp motor.

I'd ask Wolf what an additional brake resistor in the vfd would cost. The vfd is great to stop the wheels but will need more than the internal one to deal with that mass. You also will need to wire any kill switches through the vfd as well as the stop start. Dave

I run my 3 phase Clausing drill press with a vfd from Marshall
Wolf, though mine is much smaller. They have a decent users’ manual and are willing to talk you through your setup. Enjoy that monster of a bandsaw.

I run my 5 hp minimax edge sander off a a vfd supplied by jack forsberg. A 9 hp vfd will require a very large single phase circuit...

I resaw rare woods, including ebony and rosewood, so power definitely helps. VFD is actually a 20HP, but with this setup it is "de-rated" and should pull about 55 amps of 1PH according to Wolf.
