Hi all -

I'm apparently sliding down a new slope - found this on FB today. Stamped Page Mfg. Co. I probably overpaid, but I like it.

I don't see anything on this manufacturer online (my google-fu may be slipping...) - anyone know of/use these?

The hatchet seems solid and pretty clean, and I hope will be put into service soon helping to split out chair parts.

I too have recently developed an interest in axes... Went from one crappy BORG one to 3 nice Swedish models. Went camping last week, used the splitting axe a lot. Hatchet a good bit, and sadly no call for the felling/regular axe.
But all are sharp!

My opinion is not worth much, but the little "V" of metal over the center of the handle seems to be a good sign of better quality/design to reduce handle splitting.

Thanks Tyler. Ironically, I went to college in Kalamazoo. Great town. Now, if I'm reading this correctly, the stamp indicates this predates the 1894 name change? Kind of makes me wonder if there was another Page Manufacturing.

Erich, I can see this becoming at least a short term obsession. So interesting, and so useful. I have a small hatchet from dePot, and it was always fine (just fine), but I'm dying to put this to work. I have a neighbor who's fixing to fell an ash that I want to snarf for some turning stock, and when I split the wood, the hatchet will come in handy.

Problem (problem) is, the guy I got this from has about 30 other axes/hatchets/heads for sale...

It seems there was also a Page Manufacturing Company in San Francisco. There really doesn't seem to be much online. I'm guessing it's probably one of the many toolmakers who didn't last long enough or end up big enough to leave much of a record.

Valid. I'm hoping someone knows something, but I'm happy with the hatchet, so it's all cake. I think it'll be good for what I want to do with it, and again, down the slope I go!
