Look at Carl Holmgren on YouTube
I bought a used 1642 that had the foot/caster combo mounted to the lathe legs. It made it way too tall for me. I took them off and the lathe just sits in one place in my shop. I'd suggest you seriously consider the height when choosing and I would recommend a mobile base.
Mine is on 3" double locking castors and works fine for me. It does put the spindle height at about 48".

I built retractable casters for mine about 15 years ago. Still going strong. I documented the build in a PDF if interested including the cam handle profile. The casters are only for mobility and storage and are never in use when turning, so height change isn't of concern.

Dick Mahoney, thanks for posting. What is the black piece under your cam? Metal? Plastic?
