I’m building a bookcase out of some really nice birch plywood and against my preferences and to please my 9 year old client, the sides will painted. I’m going to use SherwinWilliams super paint which claims to be paint and primer combined but I think I need to prime the raw wood first. To get the smoothest finish, should I use a latex primer. I assume this will raise the grain somewhat and I’ll have to lightly sand before the topcoat. Could I use shellac as a primer and what cut? Note - the shelves and accents will be shellac. Sometimes grandpa can override the client.
