The box my Stanley 55 combination plane came from the seller with the lid missing and damage to the slots for the lid. The one side was broken off and the other side cracked. I wanted to save this box, being original, and the one end had a label. Planed the broken side down to the level where the lid slides and made a new replacement. This replacement was then glued using gravity clamps. (A #7 plane and brass bar). The broken side was glued back together. A new lid made of lexan was made and a handle attached with small flathead screws. This handle and the new replacement wood was then finished with some teak oil. I did not try to match the finish because I didn't want to try to pass off as original. Decided to use the lexan because I wanted to show off the plane.
