A friend of mine on another forum (a hunting forum) saw my calls and wanted me to make him a couple custom one's for his collection.
One he wanted from Purpleheart with a slate calling surface and glass soundboard.
The other he wanted from Padauk with a Glass calling surface and an aluminum soundboard with a feather on it. I was skeptical that it would sound okay, but I was Pleasantly surprised at the sound quality - Not too shabby!!
I have yet to make the strikers for them, but he wants a Padauk Striker with a Box-Elder handle for the Purpleheart and I get to choose what is to go with the Padauk call.
I don't think they came out too awful bad at all!
I think he'll like them.
He wants me to come up with some display ideas for each call or a display for 5 to 8 calls. So, I get to do more woodworking than just making calls & strikers!
