peppermill thread size

Does anyone happen to know the thread size on the end of the peppermill drive shaft onto which the adjustment knob screws?
I have a shot at a bunch of custom-sized mills that will require shortening driveshafts, or making my own. either way I am going to need to thread the ends for the adjustment knobs.

I found out they are normally 12/24 threads, but in the mean time remembered I have a ball peen hammer which will upset the end of that aluminum shaft faster than cutting new threads!
some days it pays to actually stop and think huh?
