    Blue Spruce Chisels

New Chisels....I ran across an interesting set of chisels made in USA...by Blue Spruce Toolworks and sold by the Best Things and also by Blue Spruce Toolworks...

"All great work starts with love .... then it is no longer work"

  2. Heh, heh, heh...My new 1/4" will be done in aother week...

Dave Jeske is a great guy. These chisels are fantastic in the hand, steel is great. The workmanship...wow.

    Take care, Mike

    Drool drool beautiful fantistac CHACHING.
I usually find it much easier to be wrong once in while than to try to be perfect.

My web page has a pop up. It is a free site, just close the pop up on the right side of the screen

Just waiting for my set to arrive......everything I've read about them has been positive and talking to Dave affirmed that for me. He's passionate about the tools he makes and that always bodes well.

  7. For a while I was hosting Blue Spruce as distinguished toolmaker on my site.

    http://www.wkfinetools.com/MUTools/tMakers/blueSpruce/index.asp

We had a bio sketch and reprint of article by Chris Schwarz. Chris has the Endurance Test on PWW and he writes a review of the tool he is testing:

    http://www.wkfinetools.com/MUTools/uTools/BSmarkingKnife/index.asp

The whole thing started with David approaching me about posting a link to his web site and after that we had a good time having his bio and article by Chris posted.

BTW, if any of you guys want to suggest toolmaking shop (or you want to be one) as a Distinguished Toolmaker for wkFineTools.com - it would be great.

I also feature Toolmaker of the Month on www.OldToolsShop.com for a month. Some of you, Mike W and Steve K, were presented there some time ago.

I have davids marking knife and am very happy with it. His chisels are sold by the set of four on his web page. He will sell them individually and plans to change web site, for now call or e-mail David for individual purchases.

I have a number of tools from BlueSpruce, including a set of the chisels. They've all become indispensable! I also asked for several custom tools (including two pairs of drawbore pins, and some very short ball-handled butt chisels for small spaces). Dave did a great job on these, for prices that would have been good for mass-produced tools. Can't say enough good things about BlueSpruce.

I received my set a couple of weeks ago and haven't had time to do more than a few small test cuts but I was impressed with them enough that I ordered a set of left and right 3/8" skews to go with them. They feel good in the hand and are ready to use without touch up when they arrive. GS

Would love to hear comments after folks use these chisels, on some projects. They look wonderful. I wish I could have met Dave Jeske when I was in Portland recentely, but couldn't get to his place. I did get a consolation prize of MikeW and SteveK though!

Portland has a lot of tool makers, they are kinda on the corner of the U.S., so maybe you can say they're cornering the market on them...

I had the opportunity to handle and inspect the chisels last weekend at Best in the West, but I didnt get the chance to speak with Dave personally, since I had very limited time and he was engaged with others. Tool shows can be rather insufferable in their own way, but, nonetheless, I go to every one I can. I can say that, upon my inspection, that his workmanship is superlative, and, in my judgment, his prices consistent with the apparent quality. They appear to be every bit the equivalent to the LN's....at least in terms of appearance, fit and finish. The steel in his chisels is also A2, like the LN's.

I don't normally succumb to the siren of the latest-greatest-jazziest-most-talked-about-on-the-internet-high-priced-offerings, but instead prefer the more vintage, reasonably priced stuff and only-if-I-can-get-it-evencheaper. Definitely an inherited trait that has served me well. But just this once, I made an exception. I contacted Dave and masterfully restrained myself to ordering a single 1/4" chisel in African Blackwood.

    George,
These are not yours but they will be similar. I had a pretty good response at the show and now need to get to work. So much to do!
