    2 Big Ben pens

I really don’t turn a lot of pens but I process a lot of pen blanks. Every once in a while some special blanks come along. The first is a piece of curly Magnolia and the second is from the lightening struck maple. The Maple pen is thanks to the man I got the wood from. Both pens have 3 coats of gloss Minwax wiping poly.

Bruce these are Big Ben kits vfrom Arizona Silhouette.

Pat I gave the Magnolia pen away yesterday to a man that does some sharpening for me. He made me a HUGE Bedan tool from some old tool steel.

Terry those are really nice. Do you run thru the MM after your three coats of poly, the finish looks very flat ( I mean level and not dull) and very glossy much like a CA finsish. Excellent!

I apply finish on the lathe with the lathe turning very slow. I apply as thick with a paper towel and leave the lathe running until the finish sets up. With this method you won't get any runs. Light sand with 800 and reapply finish the next morning before leaving for work and repeat again when I get home at the end of the day. I usually apply 3 coats.
