First bowl finally completed

Well I have been learning and working on the lathe since January and finally finished my first bowl. It is spalted mimosa. Thanks everyone for helping me with how to work on spalted wood. It was sanded to 400 and then multiple coats of laquer. Let me know what you think. Oh and I will work on my photography skills too but these are decent for now.

Great job!!! Looks like you got a nice even wall thickness from what I can tell... my first was very sloppy in that regard! Nice going... now go fill this one up with candy, put it on the coffee table, and go make another! Oh yeah... and post the pix

Adam, I've been wondering how some Mimosa would look and this one convinced me to add it to my bowl blank stock. I enjoyed the form on this on and by the way, thank you for the way you took those pics. You have demonstrated a second approach to quality photography here on the site. One approach is the display photo to show off the work and is an art in itself; however it often times can hide what is really characterized in the work. This photography was close enough and clear enough to really get a view of the wood and work. I know it can often feel like it is too revealing showing what is really there, but that can be helpful if you want to get honest feedback. The times some of the guys have given me that kind of feedback have been very rewarding in the long run. I like to think of this group of being encouraging but also constructively critical when needed. This is not a reflection on your work. You've given me the perfect platform to express this. I think with the type pics you have here and a brief explanation of what your challenges were, what you know is not at it's best and a specific request for critique, others would feel good about offering up suggestions and specific process help. This is mentioned not just for you but for all of us. Thanks again Adam.
