White Oak Bowl - Acorn like

Piece of white oak crotch wood. 8"x5" sanded to 600, one coat of danish oil.

I was tring to keep as much of the figure and bark inclusion as possible and do something that was representative of the oak tree. I came up with an acornish shape. Feedback is welcome

    Thanks for looking,
    Tom

Nice Job! Looks great! I have to get into this at some point- I don't turn bowls but I really would like to "try this out"

I really like the form on this one. A very good representation of an acorn and the wood looks awesome. Nice work!!

Very nice , I think you got it Tom. A little texturing around the rim and perfect I'd say.

You nailed the acorn design. Nice job. Is the any sign of checking? Or is the wood 'well aged', or did you stabilize with PEG?

The oak was slabbed last year. It laid out in the elements all summer. After roughing, the bowl soaked in DNA for 2 days and dried for a couple of weeks. I stuck it in the mircowave for few mins and turned it. It should change shape a little bit and Im hoping that the burly wood will shrink giving the surface some texture. Ive done this a few times and so far (saying it out loud will jink me for sure) the results have been happy.. I really want that surface texture.

Good to see some turning going on over there. Please come home safe.

Good'un Tom. I think Paul's idea on the texturing deserves some consideration.

Tom, I like what you did with that piece...the extra heft really works nicely for this one with it's "massive" figure! Nice!

Very nice Tom, I'ld hate for that acorn to fall on my head.

Some people do not like thick pieces, but lots of customers do and I am one of those that agree with customers. I like this one especially the lip.
