Video camera memory

I think I know the answer to this question, but my grandson is desperate. Is it possible to undelete an erase function on a 2 meg memory stick on a movie camera. Would a camera shop possibly have something to do this. It was a trip from last month to Disney World. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the file will still be there. I'd Google "memory stick data recovery". Shredding is the term used to destroy the file for good. I'll bet that didn't happen.

It's likely a directory switch on the chip that needs to be fiddled with. Let us know how this turns out.

I agree with Mitchell. Unless he took more pictures after he erased it, it should be possible to recover them. If he took more pictures, then the new ones could have been written to the card over the old ones, which would mean they are gone forever.

That would re-write the directory and the space where the new file sits on the chip, not nessessarily the rest of the files. There are likely to still be there, just not listed in the directory anymore.

I'd give it a shot.

Probably not, but it might destroy one or more. I've had excellent luck recovering deleted files with something called Restorer 2000, including recovering files from a memory card our reader damaged. I have the Pro version.

OK, thanks for the help. I cannot locate his cables, so it may be this evening before I can try it. Again thanks for all the help. I will let you know how it works. This little guy is 12 and he waited 2 years to go to Disney. He's heartbroken. My 1st question was "Did you back them up?"

One other thing. You absolutlely must recover the files to a different drive than they are currently on. The act of writing the restored file could overwrite the data needed to restore others.

Well I bought and downloaded Pro Data Doctor. It recovered the files on my Grandson's camera. Unfortunately he had already used it and deleted some other pictures, and these were the only ones I could recover. So all his original pictures were gone. I appreciate the help. The software worked great and easy to use.

That stinks. Did they get a photo pass at Disney? The CD of pictures is expensive, but then again so is going back.
