Any way to make steamed walnut look like air dried

I'm working on a blanket chest for my niece for christmas. I ran out of decent stuff in my stock of air dried walnut to finish the lid. Only thing I have been able to find on short notice is steamed walnut. needles to say the color isn't the same. The steamed stuff seems so washed out Any sugestions on trying to make it more like air dried walnut?

Very careful use of a toner, ala shellac with transtint or similar. You could use a very weak dye also but this is getting into some advanced finishing technique that I would pass on. A man has got to know his limitations, mine stops well short of trying to do a bunch of toning and the like.

Ralph, wish I was closer and I would give you enough to finish. Maybe if you posted a thread in general woodworking requesting help from Missouri creekers?
