Also a + for hairspray. Being able to change the handles is one of the perks of using socket chisels. If you epoxy the handle you lose that advantage. If you cannot change the handle the Japanese...
Jim, glad to be of help. Adam, if you cannot get Sweetheart handles - go to LN, the handles seem to fit fine.
The handle probably won't stay in all the time, but I did see a video where Mr. Lie Nielsen lightly sprayed the socket part of the handle with hairspray and reinserted it into the chisel. After...
Isn't is interesting what we do to ourselves....crossword puzzles, games of all sorts, rooting for the Browns, etc. (sorry Browns' fans), and woodworking. I guess that deep down we just enjoy being...
Certainly not an expert, but I like diamond stones and oilstones. I am currently using diamond stones. You might want to look at this video as a help in making your decision...
Jim, a Moxon vise would probably help for bigger pieces. If you build your own they aren't that expensive. Just a thought.
Mine is adjustable, but it is usually set at 37" which is about wrist height. I am 6'3" tall and shrinking. (Height wise anyway.)
Thank you for your help. I am considering one for the shop.
I was signed up for 30 days after purchasing a Wood River plane. I thought that it was very interesting and informative.
Has anyone tried the Chappell Cabinet Maker Bench Squares? It is made in the framing square style, but that has some advantages (flat in shop apron.) The 3 X 4 looks as if it could be quite useful...
I wonder how PM-V11 chisels would go over in Japan. Maybe Stu could be LV's agent. :)
Mike, I did post some pictures, but I don't remember when, so here some new ones. Please pardon the stuff on the floor, I am rethinking my shop layout. My bench is not fancy, but I did spend a...
David, I agree that a dollar saved is a dollar for more tools, oops saved. I usually get my wood from a place in Arizona. They are good people and great to deal with, but I do shop their specials....
David, thank you for West Penn's information!
Mike, Japanese planing beam (bench) at http://www.popularwoodworking.com/workbenches/schwarz-workbenches/a-japanese-workbench . The sometimes have one end higher than the other to allow gravity to...
I checked on line at Woodcraft for information about the Woodriver shoulder plane. They have a rather generic description, but if it the sides a sole are square and the sole flat, it ought to work. ...
Jim, I absolutely agree. A Roubo top on an Adjust-A-Bench would put a person in the hospital unless they were in better shape than I am. :D I currently have a composite top of Oak plywood and MDF...
I would watch their sales flyer and specials. They do have some good deals. I don't use a shoulder plane either, so I cannot comment on the WoodRiver one.
Very nice. I am adding extra lighting also.
David congratulations. I am certain the bench will serve you well. I have never seen anything LN that was not well built. as to the thread this is a bit of a Mac vs PC arguement again except for...
Very interesting. Adam, maybe Linux should be for the hard core rust hunters and do it your selfers who make their own tools, that some of us would like to buy. It seems that most of us are hybrid...
Background: I have been following a thread on another site where the gentleman says that he got a Stanley G12-060 as a gift, fettled it, and it works great. He then asks why would anyone want to...
They probably have to up the price on the jointer to keep a margin when they have one of their sales. As to the price of the 4-1/2 and 5-1/2, it is only slightly higher than ebay prices for the...
I like it also. It is what I used to make my toolboxes.
